He was predeceased by: his parent Syretha Thompson Hairston; his brother Ernest Hairston; and his grandparents, Primas and Willie Alma Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Edna; his daughters, Khia and Ashlie; his grandchildren, Uriah and Ermias; his children, Corban and Prisha; his aunts, Bettye Bruno, Mattye Thompson Reymont and Jacquelyn Belton; and his uncle Samme Thompson. He is also survived by other loving relatives and lifelong friends.

His final wish was to donate the floral arrangements from his celebration to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
