He was predeceased by: his parents, Elijah J. Whitley and Stella Mae Whitley. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Whitley; his children, Jennifer Barrera (Alex Barrera), Devin Hathaway, Michael Whitley (Nathan Hall) and Karen Whitley; his grandson Alex Barrera III (Jessika Roesner); his siblings, Helen, Lucille, Eva Jo, Jack, Bill, James David and Charles; and his grandson James Daniel Barrera.
