He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joe Coufal and Bo Coufal; his sons, Michael Joseph Coufal of Leander and Jeremy Mark Coufal of Tomball; his wife Scarlett Joy Coufal of Spring; his daughter-in-law Lidia Perla Coufal; his grandchildren, Jose Francisco Menjivar, Samuel Isaac Coufal Jones, Scarlett Rebecca Coufal and Timothy Edward Coufal; and his brothers, Jerry Wayne Coufal, Brian Everett Coufal of Kingsville and Paul Scott Coufal of Brenham. He was also cherished by wives, children, and grandchildren.

“First of all my sincere condolences to Mark's family. I taught Mark both MK 44 and MK 46 Torpedoes in the mid 70s at SSC, Orlando. He was my best student and you never forget the best. I watched him rise through the TM ranks after I retired from the navy in 86. In the last decade we would meet for lunch when I visited my daughter in Spring.
