He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Josiah Laird and Nettie Storm Laird; and his siblings, Lawrence, Roy, Alton and Winnie Nell.

He is survived by: his wife Joveta; his children, Kathy Boyer, Scott Laird (Dawn), Karen Harlan (Wade) and Kelly Laird (Stacia); his grandchildren, Justin Laird, Barry Laird (Anisia), Steve Terry (Rachel), John Terry, Meghan Baker (Lance), Wes Harlan (Megan), Leah Harlan and Conley Laird; and his great grandchildren, Norah, Clare Baker, Brooks Laird and Olivia Harlan.
