He was predeceased by: his parents, James Byrd Steele Sr. and Elizabeth Sizemore Steele Gore; his wife RuthAnn Steele; his siblings, John Steele and Mary Duke; and his son James Byrd Steele (Jay).
He is survived by: his sons, John Thomas Steele (Tommy), Richard Barton Steele (Shannon Steele) and Ryan Christopher Steele (Christie Steele); his great grandchildren, Rebecca Steele, Christopher (Eden Steele), Joshua Mertink and Philip Steele; and also, Beckett Thomas Richards and Canaan Reed Steele. He is also survived by his three sons, two daughter's in-law, four grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.
