He was predeceased by: his parents, Odus Burl Umphress and Ima Tovrea Garnett Umphress; and his wife Linda. He is survived by: his children, Jennifer Ottens (Jim) of Utah and Cole Umphress (Lavonna) of Canyon, TX; his sister Wanda Foster (Bert) of St. Louis; his grandchildren, Jesse Umphress, Christopher Umphress, Erik Ottens, Matthew Ottens, Britnee Umphress, Casey Umphress and Shelby Umphress; and his great grandchildren, Aiden James, Avery Chase, Rosalie Grace, Colten Lee and Stella Rose.
The family suggests memorials to be made in memory of James be to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Perryton, Texas.
