He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Bee Wheeler; his parents, Nelson Edgebert Wheeler and Katy Correne Walker; his children, Tony Martinez Jr. and Rozonna Johnston; and his grandsons, Michael Martinez and Mark Martinez.

He is survived by: his daughter Laura Samler; his son-in-law John Pauole; his siblings, Charles Wheeler, Robert Wheeler, Roxanne Wheeler and Ellen Wheeler; and his grandchildren, Eric Martinez, Kachina Johnston, Chasity Shipman, Samson Samler, Savannah Simmons and Joshua Samler. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
