He was predeceased by: his parents, James Owen and Stella Ruth Law Yates; and his siblings, Elzner Roy Yates, Delton Owen Yates, Doyle Shannon Yates, Stanley Sherwood Yates, Joy Ruth Laster and Margaret Marie Altum.
He is survived by: his wife Patsy; his daughters, Jennifer Heichelheim (Scotty), Rebecca Ann Bedair (Brett) and Kimberly Ren; the parent of his children Jackie Yates; his grandchildren, Christopher Heichelheim, Clayton Yates, Colson Bedair, Alexa Copeland (Cole) and Hanna Heichelheim; his great grandchild Ricky Copeland; his brothers, Archie Yates, Randy Clay Yates (Sherry) and Murry B Yates (Diane); and his nephews, Todd Blair Yates, Stephen Bruce Yates, Brian Anthony Yates, Brandon Alan Yates, Murry Anthony Yates, Michael Brandon Yates and Mark Allen Yates. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
