He was predeceased by: his wife Nadine Hippler Powell; his parents, Marvin Powell and Maxine Nichols Powell; his sister Karen Hadlock; and his niece Crystal Vickers.

He is survived by: his sons, James Powell (Kande) of Center and Brian Powell (Jennifer) of Lufkin; his grandsons, Nicklaus Powell of Center, Davis Powell of Lufkin, Clayton Powell of Center and Jackson Powell of Lufkin; and his brothers, Don Powell (Priscilla) of Sabine County and Milton Powell of Sabine County. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
