He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Sowards and Lorain Sowards; his wife Alene Sowards; and his siblings, Willard Jr., Guy, Cecil, George, Arnold, Shirley and Charlotte.

He is survived by: his children, Barbara Browning (Ricky) and Steven Sowards (Melissa); his close friend JoAnn Miller; his grandchildren, Bree Weikum, Nikki Corral, Nicholas, Jay and Jayden Sowards; his great grandchildren, Cody Corral, Nathan Corral and Bryan Corral; and his sisters, Janice Warren and Juanita Overbee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
