It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James McClay Atherton of Scurry, Texas, who passed away on December 12, 2020, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Charles Atherton and Bashie Oleta Williams Atherton; and his siblings, John Thurman Atherton, Herbert Atherton, George Atherton, Lula Atherton Macek, Elaise Atherton Spawn and Mary Atherton Guinn.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Randy Atherton of Prairieville, Bonnie Ann Gilbert of Scurry and Gay Lynn Geiger of Kemp; and his siblings, Lloyd Daniel Atherton, Oleta Mae Atherton Jones, Cornelia Atherton Granger, Betty Atherton Deslatte and Margaret Ann Atherton Montgomery. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren.
