He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Fey and Elsie Marie Smothers. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lee Smothers; his children, Robert Smothers, Christene Schoener, David Smothers and Becky Fulenwider; his grandchildren, Troy Smothers, Morgan Derby, Cullen Schoener, Tanner Schoener, Lindsey Smothers, Sara Eskridge, Robbie Smothers and Dylan Fulenwider; and his great grandchildren, Delilah, Kylie, Conley and Wyatt.

Visitation was held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the First Baptist Church (110 N Upton Ave, Schulenburg, TX 78956). A memorial service was held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
