He was predeceased by: his parents, Melba Burke and Gerald David Kress, Sr.; his wife Karen Elaine Davis; his son Jimmy Dale Kress; and his brother Robert Shipley.

He is survived by: his daughters, Christina Hopp of Sanger, Amy Varnado (Joshua) of Franklinton and Kara Hill (Colby) of Sanger, Texas; his sister Brenda Cole; and his grandchildren, Ethan Hopp, Michelle Hill and Lawson Varnado.
