He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Thorman and Mary Thorman; his wife Leona Bietz; and his siblings, Edward, Elsie and Betty.

He is survived by: his son Joseph A.; and his grandchildren, Josette, Joseph L., Jolene, Jessica, Jeana, Janessa and Erin. He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
