He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Barrera and Maria Perfecta Barrera; his daughter Rosalinda Ambriz; his siblings, Rafaela Ruiz, San Juana Castillo and Ramona Valdez; and his great grandchildren, Jade and Jasper Soloman.

He is survived by: his wife Raquel A. Barrera; and his children, Francisco Barrera Jr., Fabian Barrera and Fermin Barrera (Rosalinda). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
