He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Smithwick and Elodia L. Smithwick; his brother Roy Louis Smithwick; his sister-in-law Raquel P. Smithwick; his sister Delpha Garcia; and his great grandchild Uriah Martinez.
He is survived by: his wife Maria Albesa Smithwick; his children, Ruben Rene "Sonny" Smithwick, Jr. (Debbie), Steven Noah Smithwick (Angelica), Sandra Bazan (Hector Mario), Loma Linda, Sally Smithwick, San Diego and Sarah Smithwick (Roel Chapa); and his siblings, Charles Smithwick, Jr. (Cota) and Sally Messer (Henry). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
