It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hank Wendall Smetak of San Diego, Texas, born in Flatonia, Texas, who passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Glenda Smetak; his daughter Cathy Carlson; his parents, Mary Pinter Smetak and Alfons Smetak; and his siblings, Marcel Smetak, Alfons Jr. Smetak, Margaret Smetak and James Smetak.
He is survived by: his sister Patricia (Don Hancock); and his children, Steven Smetak (Cindy Smetak), Todd Smetak (Betty Smetak) and Tiffany Smetak Scurr (William Scurr). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews.
During his extensive career in aerospace, he made critical contributions to important United States space projects, including the Anti-satellite weapon (ASAT), the Space Shuttle and many other classified projects.
