He was predeceased by: his wife Carolina Vargas; his daughter Marisa Vargas; and his siblings, Antonio Vargas, Raul Ramirez, Sylvia Garcia and Angelina Rodriguez.
He is survived by: his children, Javier Vargas (Heidi), Freddy Vargas, Tony Vargas (Summer), Jose Luis Vargas (Daisy), Sonia Bleeker (John), Sandy Covey (Guy) and Mel Ledesma; and his siblings, Jose Luis Vargas (Gloria), Francisco Vargas (Linda), Marugenia Perez (Juan) and Guadalupe "Lulu" Casarez. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
