He was predeceased by: his wife Gloria Cantu; his grandson Matthew Obadiah Cantu; his parents, Guadalupe Cantu and Leonor Garcia; and his siblings, Guadalupe Cantu Jr., Calixtro Cantu, Leonor Sanchez and Ruth Romero.
He is survived by: his children, Norma Gonzales (Paul), Nora Cantu (Raymundo Padilla II), Nelda Cantu (Lorenzo Machuca Jr.) and Gilbert Cantu Jr. (Vicky). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and at 9:00 PM at the Thomae-Garza Funeral Home (395 S Sam Houston Blvd, San Benito, TX 78586). A prayer was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at the San Benito Memorial Park (6501 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77007).
