He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Jr. Shafer and Bernita LaNelle Walzel Shafer; his son William Clyde Shafer, Jr.; his in-laws, Dan L. and Frances Stevens Dodds; and his nephew Michael Steven Shafer.
He is survived by: his brother Howard Erwin "Guy" Shafer; his daughters, Rebecca Shafer Crocker (Del) of Mississippi and Christy Shafer Fontenot (Jim) of San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren, Joshua William Eremia (Scott), Katherine Grace Eremia of Christopher James, Fontenot, Allyson Marie Crocker and Ryleigh Grace Crocker; and also D'Lynn Dodds Shafer.
