He was predeceased by: his parents, William Southern and Mary Isabella Southern; his wife Irene L. Poole; his siblings, Victor, Maxine and Joseph; and his daughter Lorraine Dimmick (Bill).
He is survived by: his son Gary W. Southern (Heidi). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
