He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen Stroup and John Stroup; and his sister-in-law Angie Stroup. He is survived by: his children, Kevin Stroup and Kimberly Stroup Tilghman (Todd); and his siblings, John Stroup (Carolyn), Margy Brehmer (Steve), Robert Stroup and William Stroup (Lynne). He is also survived by children, grandchildren, and other extended family.

He built homes and churches and was part of Strong Foundation Films crew for many years.
