He was predeceased by: his parents, Kurt Oettel and Christine Oettel (Schmidt); and his former wife Carol Rose Oettel. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ruth Gaede of San Antonio; his daughters, Victoria Oettel (Stuart Upton) and Kristina Oettel-Barber (Sean Barber); and his grandchildren, Toby Upton-Oettel of Sydney and Beatrice Upton-Oettel of Sydney, Australia. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
