He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Derry and David Lee Derry. He is survived by: his children, Lauran Derry Porter and Justin Michael Derry; his wife Gwen Derry; his grandsons, Kevin Keith Jones II, Alyjah Anthony Thompson and Jaymison William Porter; his siblings, Lee Ellen Derry, James Derry (Darlene), Maxine Derry, Gloria Derry, Janet Derry, Sharon Newsome (Benjamin) and Sheila Derry; his sister-in-law Jessica Hairston; and his aunt Eva Richards (Bryant). He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the MeadowLawn Funeral Home (5611 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78220). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 30th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the MeadowLawn Chapel (5611 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78220).

“I feel blessed to have known Jimmy as a friend as well as a fellow firefighter, Jimmy was special person; cool as Isaac Hayes, and as calming as Curtis Mayfield. In often chaotic situations he had the requisite attitude and demeanor, to turn chaos to calm. Although we hadn’t seen each other in years, his famous menudo and barbecue were referenced and praised hundreds of times. He will be missed by anyone who crossed his path. May God bless and watch over the entire Derry family.”
