He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Garay and Eulalia Torres; his son Ernest "Ernie" Garay Jr.; his sister Yolanda Strickland; and the mother of his children Isabel Garay.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Isabel Sanchez (Fabian), Richard Garay (Pat) and Edward Garay (Ursula Fuentes); and his siblings, Beatrice Marin, Rosa Medelez and Juan Garay. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
