With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Duane Edward Byrd (San Antonio, Texas), who passed away on August 2, 2024 at the age of 73. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Barbara Jean Mackay (Byrd) and Sherman Clifton Byrd; and his stepfather Leo Sidney Mackay Sr.. He is survived by: his children, Sam, Monica, Jenna and Khalil; his grandchildren, Avery, Sloan, Jace, Mari and Alyssa; and his siblings, Johnathan (Pamela), Joyce (Edward), Leo (Heather) and Elizabeth.

These traits served him well in his service to our country, as a career Army officer and during his lengthy battle with Parkinson's.
