She is survived by: her husband Jim Hardin; her sons, Cy Cates and Craig Cates; her daughter-in-law Robin Cates; her siblings, Jerry Frierson (Sonia), Patti Shaw (Glen) and Tommy Frierson (Becca); her grandchildren, Shelby Bower (Stephen) and Lindsay Cates (George Patterson); and her great grandchildren, Alice Bower, Townes Bower and Talulla Patterson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In her later years, Dorthea suffered from Alzheimer's-related dementia.
