He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara G. Alvarez; and his siblings, Manuel Alvarez Jr. and Catarina Alvarez. He is survived by: his children, Robert Alvarez, Carlos Alvarez (Nellie) and Helen A. Pena Gray (Charles). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
