He is survived by: his children, Richard Wheeler (Barbara), Patricia Wheeler Kowalewski (Jim), Lyle Wheeler (Herb) and Adriane Knox; his sister-in-law Mary Faye Lehrer; and his granddaughter Gianna Savage.

The family requests that donations be made to any local pet rescue organization.
