He was predeceased by: his father Willie Ross Ashby II; and his grandparents, Willie Ross Ashby I, Thelma Townshend Ashby, Ellis Garland Gunnell and Clyde Gunnell.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ashby; his children, Ember Leigh Ashby (Leandro Minarelli), Willie Ross Ashby IV (Anna Ashby) and Victor Andres Monroy; his grandchildren, Emerson Carden, Emilia Minarelli, Bryana Ashby, Nolan Ashby and Bridget Ashby; his mother Naomi Ruth Gunnell; and his siblings, Martha Ruth Ashby and Richard Clyde Ashby.
