He was predeceased by: his parents, James David "Bo" Sartain and Virginia McCarty Sartain; his sister Patty; his niece Kayla; and his nephew Shane.

He is survived by: his children, Heather Sartain (Jamie Whitaker), Shelby Rodgers, Jayme Sartain (Paula), Colton Sartain and Colby Sartain; his sisters, Sandy Yates (Jackie), Nancy McCarley, Tammy Liles (Tommy) and Debbie Grandorff; his grandchildren, Aryanna, Levi, Wyatt, Jameson, Grayson, Gabriella and Piper; and his nephews, Brandon Smith, Cody Smith, Jacob Hailey of Jonathan Yates, B. J, Nathan Yates, Ethan Yates and Chad McCarley.
