He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Smith and Louise Smith; and his siblings, Dorothy, Marie and Hebert Henry Jr..

He is survived by: his brother Ted Smith of Houston. He is also survived by his three sons, three daughters, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to National Kidney Foundation or America Diabetes Association.
