He was predeceased by: his parents, Ambrosina Mendez Cancel (Victor) and Antonio F. Mendez Sr.; and his wife Minnie Tapp Mendez. He is survived by: his sister Alice Acosta (Manny); and his brother-in-law Tom Tapp (Joyce). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
