He was predeceased by: his parents, Steve Nix and Johnnie Nix; and his siblings, Billie Jo Redinger, Carmen Inge and Wendell Nix.
He is survived by: his wife Melinda Nix; his children, Kimberly Garza (Julian) and James Nix (Christine); his grandchildren, Britteny Gomez (Ormando), Dylan Garza, Christopher Thurston, Alexander Nix, Mitchell Garza and Jillian Garza; and his great grandchildren, Ormando Gomez III and Serenity Gomez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
