He was predeceased by: his parents, Shelton Helms and Sophie Lee Thompson; his grandparents, L. E., Delilah Thompson, Aaron Helms, Sr. and Elizabeth Helms; his sister Lois Helms Riccard; his son-in-law Tremayne Scales; and his grandson Matthew Roberts.
He is survived by: his children, Albert Helms, Jr. (Julie) of Clute, Charlene Franklin (Ron) of Missouri City, Darlene Helms and Callie Tolbert (Cary) of Rosharon; and his siblings, Tresa Thompson of Brazoria, Thelma Franklin of Houston and Rev. Anthony Smith, Jr. (Florida) of Bay City. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
