He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Ernst and Elizabeth Adams Ernst (Lizzie); his spouse Ollie Skala; and his siblings, Ervin Ernst, Roy Lee Ernst, Clyde Jarrell Ernst and Doris Hayes.
He is survived by: his sons, David Ernst of Rosebud and Lonnie Ernst (Angelique) of Pearland; his granddaughter Lauren Prouty (Nick) of Temple; and his great grandchildren, Kayleigh Prouty, Kolton Prouty, Ryder Prouty and Lincoln Prouty.
