He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ida Blackmon (Wilson) and Donald Blackmon of Ropesville; his wife Joan Melcher; and his grandchildren, Amanda, Kate, Mya of Seattle, Emma and Ila of Austin. He was also cherished by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Lubbock Meals on Wheels or Catholic Charities of Lubbock Diocese in lieu of flowers.
