She was predeceased by: her parents, C. C. Gest and Mary Viola Gest (Daniels); her husband Alton Backhaus; her daughter Judy Kay Backhaus; her siblings, Juanita Ward and Billy Gest; her daughter-in-law Kay Backhaus; and her siblings-in-law, Willard Backhaus, Cooper Ward, Lamkin, Agnes Backhaus, Eleanor Lamkin and Lillian Backhaus.
She is survived by: her children, Janie Sue Lightsey (Steve) of Fairfield and Randy Backhaus (Claudette); her grandchildren, Chris Lightsey (Erin), Kyle Lightsey (Naffie) and Morgan Muñoz (Lorenzo); her sister-in-law Marie Gest; and her great grandchildren, Colin Lightsey, Luke Lightsey, Abigael Lightsey, Lillian Lightsey, Elise Muñoz and Elianna Muñoz.
