He was predeceased by: his former wife Anna Marie; his parents, William Bernsen and Katherine Bernsen; his siblings, Billy C. Bernsen, Betty Bernsen Schlottman, Maurice Bernsen and Tommy Bernsen; and his son Leon Jr..

He is survived by: his spouse Dance; his daughter Dianna Bernsen (Stephen Livingston); and his sisters, Barbara Bernsen Greenwood and Virginia Meens. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
