He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Floyd Abernathy and Helen Abernathy; his daughter Dawn Marie Abernathy; his grandchildren, Raegan and Kennedy; his children, Lawson, William, Rowdy of Mineola, Texas., Justin Leigh Abernathy and Aurora of Big Springs, Texas.; and his brother Michael Leigh Abernathy (Carol) of Sweetwater, Texas.. He was also cherished by son to his parents, loved his children.

The past few years he has lived in Mineola Texas with his daughter Megan while he battled Alzheimer's disease.
