He was predeceased by: his mother Mabel Kernes; and his siblings, Earl, James, Floyd Kernes and Josephine Logston.

He is survived by: his wife Alice; his stepdaughters, Juanita Holder and Debby Fisher (Kenny Fisher); his siblings, David Kernes (Mary Lou) of Quitman, Texas and Oda Mae Strebeck of Texarkana, Arkansas; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Kernes of Quitman and Bonnie Kernes of Lepanto. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
