With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Bill Bates Hedges (Quitman, Texas), who passed away on May 31, 2023 at the age of 84. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He is survived by: his brother Harold [Mary Helen] Hedges, III; his daughter Kathryn [Stephen] Arata of Dallas, TX; his grandchildren, Jeremy [Emma] Arata, Hannah Arata and Julianna Arata; his son Kent [Jennifer] Hedges of Cedar Park, TX; his grandchildren, Nick [Lily] Hedges, Noah Hedges and Logan Hedges; his daughter Rebecca [Ross] Matthews of Houston; his granddaughters, Ellen Matthews and Olivia Matthews; his wife Beth Robinson Hedges; his stepdaughter Jill [Todd] House of Joshua, TX; his granddaughters, Katie [Jason] Billingslea and Mary Claire [Will] Meador; his stepdaughter Jill Meil Robinson of Dallas; and his grandchildren, Ben Robinson, Adam Robinson, Madison Shirley and Chloe [Collin] Cooper. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.

“I met Bill in the spring of 2022 when I was working my Christian Heritage paper for Dr. Campbell at Perkins School of Theology. I was writing on the history of LaRue Methodist Church (1902-2022). Bill opened his home to me and allowed me to look at his research. I am forever grateful for his hospitality and friendship. Till we meet again friend!”
