Irvin Eugene "Cooky" Robinson passed away peacefully at home in Putnam Texas, March 14, 2024. He was born October 14, 1947 in Abilene, Texas to Lynn and Dubby Mae Robinson. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday March 17, 2024 in the Kimbrough-Jacobs Chapel with burial following at the Putnam Cemetery.
Cooky received his GED in 1965 and began his career working in the oil patch for Haliburton and soon moved on to driving a truck cross country for many years. His final destination landed him in the oil profession where he started out as a truck driver and quickly worked his way up to general manager of United Energex for over 34 years where he oversaw all aspects of the oil field service industry. While at Energex he forged many lifelong friendships and also played a significant role in many crazy stories and memories including letting his brand new Dodge truck roll into a 4 foot deep pit of oil with his dogs still sitting in the front seat under the air conditioner with the engine running….OR the many times he would fire everyone on Friday only to hire them back Monday and many other stories BETTER left undocumented.
He married Gayla Sue Robinson on July 31, 1967. He loved spending time with his boys more than anything. Teaching them how to hunt, fish, fight, work and probably in that order. He also loved coaching them and watching them play many sports such as baseball and football. Some of his proudest moments were watching his boys play ball under the lights on Friday night. He could always be found holding up the fence with all the other dads cussing the coaches and opposing players as well as our own players every once in a while. Probably the best part of his life after raising two crazy boys was to be blessed with two beautiful granddaughters Kaitlyn and Sierra. At which time all the rules changed to NO rules at all. He was still able to enjoy Friday night lights they were just a little different. Now they would include pom poms, basketballs, softballs and track spikes.
Cooky was preceded in death by his wife Gayla both of his parents, his son Rusty Lynn Robinson his brother Marion James Cope as well as his sister Dianne Robinson Vickers. Surviving him are his son Burke and wife Cami Robinson of Putnam, Texas. As well as grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kade Goble of Baird, Texas and Sierra Robinson of Granbury Texas, two sisters-in- law Cindy Burford and husband Dave and Kelly Stowbridge and Randy Kemp, brother-in-law Jerry Vickers. And nieces and nephews Stacey Kersey, T J Kersey, Jenifer Benton and Caleb, David Lee Stowbridge and Jennifer, Amber Vickers, Jason Vickers and Lauren, and Tara Pirsch and Ben.
Cooky also leaves behind some beautiful friends and caregivers. He may never know the love and care that was given to him upon his death but we will be forever grateful. A special thank you to Cathy Ross and husband Bill for their continued care and Sheri Feeley for always being there for whatever else he needed or wanted. Much love and God bless you all!!!
