Hubert Allan Donaway Obituary

Hubert Donaway, a devoted father, cherished husband, known as Pa to most and lifelong community servant, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the age of 87. Born October 7, 1936, Hubert lived a life rich in service, family, faith, and love for his country.

A proud veteran, Hubert was deeply committed to duty and honor. His dedication extended into every facet of his life, reflected in his pursuit of the question, "Who can I help next?". He mentored and cared for hundreds of young people, treating each as his own. His involvement spanned from the Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, basketball, and Permian Band to his role as an advisor for the Indian dance team, and played a vital role in the City of Putnam. Hubert's dedication to his community was unwavering, and he proudly served as the Mayor of Putnam from 2011 until the day he passed away, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and community spirit.

In addition to his public service, Hubert was a storyteller who loved sharing tales and prayers that captured his deep faith, love for the Lord, and devotion to his military and country. His stories and guidance were not just words but inspiration that guided many and will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of hearing them.

He was a man of faith, and his Christian faith was important to him. When living in Odessa, he and Marlene were a vital part of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church and Crescent Park Baptist Church. After moving to Putnam, they became members of the First Baptist Church of Cisco. When health issues kept him from attending church, he faithfully attended Pioneer Drive Baptist Church via weekly livestream services.

In addition to his wife Marlene, Hubert is survived by his two children, Duane and Diane, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters, Hazel and Nettie, and his son, David.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Kimbrough-Jacobs Funeral Home in Cisco. Funeral services will be held in the Kimbrough-Jacobs Chapel Friday, September 6, 2024, at10:00 AM. The family welcomes all who wish to honor Hubert's remarkable life and his impact on their hearts. Burial will be in Dothan Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Putnam volunteer fire department in Hubert's memory. His legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication to helping others will not fade with his passing but will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Hubert Donaway will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he selflessly served. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and the enduring spirit of service he exemplified.
