Ruby B. Hiatt Obituary
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ruby Bingman Hiatt on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022, at the age of 105. Ruby was born on July 13th, 1917, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to her late parents, Cephas Ellisworth Bingman and Eva Anderson Bingman. Ruby attended Butler University and earned a lifetime teaching license to teach elementary school. She served as a teacher and mentor not only for her students but all those that knew her during her life. She was very involved throughout her education with Kappa Alpha Theta and was awarded for being a member for 75 years. She met her late husband, George Albert Hiatt, in high school, dated for many years, and were married in 1942 in Corpus Christi at the age of 25. After Ruby and George were married, they moved away and later returned to build a house in Portland, Texas. They lived there for the remainder of each of their lives. Ruby was an active member of the Portland community through the Chatwork Civic Club, and other volunteer activities, including serving as the first volunteer at the Texas State Aquarium and helping with the development of the volunteer program. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Ruby is survived by her son, Ronald Lee Hiatt, and two grandchildren, Ruth Roxanne Hiatt and Ryan George Hiatt, along with many friends and community members that will greatly miss her.
