It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Pedro J. Canales (Portland, Texas), who passed away on December 6, 2024, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his stepmother Eva Canales; his daughter Elizabeth Canales; his great grandchildren, Elijah Gutierez and Nathan Salinas Jr.; and his siblings, Valentine Canales, Janie Gonzales, Jose Antonio Canales, Josephine Tristan and Isabel Sandate.
He is survived by: his wife Josephine Ochoa Canales; his children, Albert Canales (Delma), Hector Canales, Richard Canales, Felix Canales, Lisa Salinas (Marco) and JoAnna Canales; and his siblings, Hilda Romero, Jesse Canales, Gilbert Canales and Odilia Brown. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, thirteen greatgrandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Winsteads' Funeral Home (500 Wildcat Dr, Portland, TX 78374). A rosary was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the same location. A Mass was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church (1008 Austin St, Portland, TX 78374). A graveside service was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Coastal Bend State Veteran Cemetery (9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410).
