He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Guy Ellis, Sr. and Retha Gosnell; his siblings, Herbert G. Ellis, Jr. and Geraldine E. Watson; his great grandchildren, Collin C. Chew and Jacie R. Collins; and his nephews, Robert Ellis, David Watson and Reed Ellis.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard James, Stuart Wayne and Charles Wesley.
