He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Castaneda and Viola Trevino Castaneda; his son John Dale Salazar; and his brothers, David Salazar and Gustavo Salazar.

He is survived by: his wife Samantha; his children, Jesse A. Castaneda, Christopher Castaneda, Steven Castaneda, George Hernandez, Jacob Rodriguez, Samuel Castaneda and Richard Castaneda; and his siblings, Letisia Castaneda, Adam Castaneda (Michelle), Elsa Castaneda, Patsy Resendez (Justin), Diana Salazar, Joe Daniel Salazar, Susie Dionne (Charles), Joe Castaneda (Michelle) and John Castaneda (Samantha).
