He was predeceased by: his parents, Guadalupe Perez Vela and Simona Silva Vela; his wife Adela Escobedo Vela; his daughters, Alma Delia Vela (Tony) of Brownsville and Maria; his grandson Guadalupe T. Torres; his great grandchild Zaiden Gilbert Guzman; and his brothers, Jose Maria "Pepe" Vela and Alfonso Vela.
He is survived by: his children, Irma Torres (Hector) of Port Isabel, Gilbert Vela (Teri) of Port Isabel, Linda Rivera (Juan E.) of San Benito, Eddie Vela (Maria) of Brownsville, Joe Vela (Norma) of Port Isabel, Juan Vela (Adriana) of Katy and Reynaldo Vela (Elsa) of Brownsville.
All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
