Whitney J. Woods Sr. Obituary

Whitney Junius Woods, Sr., born in Gueydan, Louisiana on Wednesday, May 5th 1926, passed away early Friday morning on March 13th, 2020, quietly with family at his side. Whitney was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas for over 70 years at the time of his passing. Whitney enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and was stationed at Camp Shelby, near Hattiesburg, Mississippi and earned an Honorable Discharge for his service.

He had been employed with Southern Union Gas Company. He is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtha (Thompson) and Lawrence Woods Sr.(Gueydan LA), two daughters Pantsy Woods Peterson (Fayetteville NC) and Grace Veal (Port Arthur TX), and his siblings, Lawrence Jr.(Houston TX), Evelyn Woods (Gueydan LA), Willie Woods Sr.(Houston TX), Ruby Reed (Houston TX), and Robert Woods (Houston TX).

He is survived by his children, Whitney J. Woods Jr. (Sabrina) of Houston, Tx, daughter Shelia Marie Hinds (Roberto) of LaPlata, Md, son Rev Michael R Woods Sr. (Elizabeth) of Port Arthur, Tx, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close relatives. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 9 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral starting at 11:00 A.M. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Kurt Washington, officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
